whose article, "Latinos in Oklahoma: A History of Four and a Half Centuries," was accepted by the "Chronicles of Oklahoma" for Summer 2009.

James Cummings, who graduated from our PhD program in Spring, 2003, just had his new book, "Towards Modern Public Finance: The American War with Mexico, 1846-1848," published.

James E. Klein is Assistant Professor of History at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX.  He earned his doctorate from Oklahoma State University, Department of History, in 2003.  This book was a finalist in the non-fiction category for the 2009 Oklahoma Book Awards from the Oklahoma Center for the Book.

A cultural and social history of liquor in early Oklahoma, Grappling with Demon Rum provides a fresh look at vice crusaders at the regional level.  In portraying this conflict between middle- and working-class definitions of social propriety, Klein provides new insight into forces at work throughout America during the Progressive Era.
