Early Modern Europe; Germany; Scandinavia.

Dr. Lavery's scholarship has focused on the religious and political history of early modern Germany and Scandinavia/the Nordic region. My current major research effort is a book project on the Reformation in Finland 1523-1560. The book is provisionally entitled Lutheranism’s Frontier: The Reformation in Finland in the Age of King Gustav Vasa 1523-1560. This project is part of the research group Rethinking Finland 1400-2000 sponsored by the Academy of Finland. I am a permanent adjunct professor (docent) at Helsinki University. During the years 2009-2011 I served as president for the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study.
