I am in the process of completing my book manuscript, under contract with University of California Press, entitled In Cans We Trust: The Rise and Fall of Consumer Confidence in the American Food Industry. I completed a final chapter, based on new research, this past summer 2016, and will be submitting the full manuscript for review in October. Through my Food and Culture class, taught in the Spring 2016 semester, I fostered a connection with food producers in our local community, who served as guest speakers. This provided an opportunity for community engagement and bringing local experts into the classroom. I have developed a practicum (i.e. internship) program for History majors, which has given me opportunities for collaboration with other campus partners and institutions, in addition to connecting our students with the broader community.
